The collaborative epidemiological research network project of the six national centers in Japan (6NCs) for advanced and specialized medicine - National Center Cohort Collaborative for Advancing Population Health (NC-CCAPH)

Abstract

To be effective, a suitable response to the aging of society in Japan should be founded on a comprehensive preventive approach consisting of actions aimed at a range of diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and cognitive disorders. Previous initiatives include the National Center Cohort Collaborative for Advancing Population Health (NC-CCAPH), which was established by Japan's six National Centers (6NCs) as an epidemiological research collaboration platform. The aim of the NC-CCAPH is to conduct pooled and mutual data analyses by exchange and cooperation among researchers.

The goal of our present study is twofold: not only to enhance and promote initiatives for extending healthy life expectancy through mutual use of the NC-CAAPH collaborative analysis platform by the 6NCs, but also to clarify and solve problems in health disparities and comorbidities. Further, we will continue to make evidence-based recommendations aimed at extending healthy life expectancy, and will promote research that contributes to personalized prevention based on objective indicators such as biomarkers and the use of family history and genome information.

Perspectives

  • We will create new evidence through mutual utilization of the collaborative platform, including electronic medical information sourced from each of the 6NCs.

  • We will clarify issues related to health disparities and comorbidities in each disease, and promote research to resolve these issues.

  • We will promote research that contributes to personalized prevention by utilizing objective indicators, such as biomarkers, family history and genome information.

  • We will publish a revised version of the first edition of recommendations for extending healthy life expectancy, which published in 2021; the revised version will consider issues arising since publication of the first and will include more quantitative recommendations based on the expertise and evidence of each member of the 6NCs.

SAWADA Norie

We aim not only to further promote the collaborative system now established among researchers in the 6NCs, but also to promote research that contributes to the resolution of health disparities and comorbidities and to personalized prevention. We believe these initiatives will contribute to the extension of healthy life expectancy. By promoting collaboration among the national centers and making the most of their expertise, we will promote research aimed at comprehensive disease prevention, not simply the prevention of single diseases.
